A search for "gold leaf" will help seekers further.
Since gold can be hammered into sheets which are VERY thin, the weight is pretty minimal.
Then it is sliced into tiny bits. Sure, real gold, but not very much of it in a bottle on a weight basis.
Warning: distinguish between "metal leaf" and "gold leaf."
"Metal Leaf" often does not contain gold.

A novelty item. Pretty, but not really an investment.

2 0.5 gram (weight) GOLD HGE 22k mini 20$ St. Gaudens coins (What are these?)

There is a reason why the seller does not provide close up pictures of these. They are tiny, don't look anything like the real deal, and are likely just gold plated. Here is another ebay listing that has similar looking mini 'gold' coins.

HGE=heavy gold electroplate. Plated. Electroplate can be only a few atoms thick... heavy electroplate, well, no discernible change in value.

I've seen gold flakes made out of "goldine"; a bright brass. They were a very fine foil and will act as real gold flakes in a liquid. If you come across a bag of goldine flake it is about as compressable as steel wool, and light as feather... pretty much the opposite of gold.

I am of the opinion that very few gold flake vials on ebay contain any gold whatsoever. You can buy bulk "golden flakes" and start your own ebay empire and claim ignorance or claim that the original seller said they were gold (well, gold in colour anyway)... when someone actually does a test and complains.

If you must have a vial of the stuff, the RCM vial from the RCM would be my bet.

p.s. I still do have my bag of goldine flakes. It was filler in an old tyme bottle of medicinal/dental gold flake... I wanted the bottle and the seller was quite forward that the original contents were long gone, but it was filled with this stuff.

I think you understand.

I'm trying to get a gift, not invest in gold. Certainly coins/bars is the way to get metal. She would really love a bottle that looks like that with the flakes in it.

I'm gonna search some more with the advice given. thanks!

I agree.

There are many threads on the goldrefiningforum where these vials have been verified to contain no gold at all. They are copper based alloys. You would think it was profitable enough to sell gold foil, but apparently it is even more profitable to sell fake gold foil.

I was just looking into that. I saw a video on youtube where a guy acid tests some "24k gold foil" to be less than 10k.

Not sure what I wanna do. I have a friend from alaska, maybe he can hook me up with the real deal? lol
