As you may had seen in the classic forum, I recently had an incident where a seller didn't sell me an item. He said his wife accidentally sold it in their shop and then it appeared on ebay a couple weeks later.

So after trying to handle it in a civil manner, my only recourse was negative feedback. Well it disappeared followed by the only communication I received from the seller- a message saying "nice try". I called ebay and they said that since I agreed to cancel the transaction, I wasn't supposed to be able to leave feedback.

So LESSON 1- If someone refuses to sell you an item, don't agree to cancel if you suspect anything is fishy. Leave feedback first.

LESSON 2- High ebay feedback is just about meaningless. Sellers with high ratings can't necessarily be trusted.

Edit: And, yes Dave, you were right.

Try reporting the new listing to ebay or explaining what he was doing. Other than that I would just spread the word about his ID and never buy from him again

I did report it. Not sure how well it will go. The ebay cr said "One looks like silver and the other one looks like brass. Are you sure they are the same coin?"

I think if I had paid for the auction forcing the seller to refund me, I would have been able to leave feedback.

Actually, I considered buying his lowest price "buy it now" item just so I could leave feedback. Decided not to.

Haha looks like brass. Should have said its false advertising then lol.

The one thing you could try is responding to his message. ebay can read those if you get him to admit it that could help. Probably not worth the effort though. Needless to say I won't be bidding on his stuff.

I would email back to him with the links here about his selling ethics, he would know that he wont be getting business from CCF members. And if you belong to other numismatic forums, I will send those links to that ebay seller.
