Everyone overpaid except the person who bought the cheapest. So, your point is what?
Where I'm sitting, the only ones who overpaid are the ones who paid more than retail. You know, the price by which you measure whether you overpaid or not.

When bidding on Heritage and similar I always under bid by 20% because of the 17.5% buyer's premium (dumb) and the added costs of shipping Bottom line...use what ever works for you. If you are buying, buy on the site with the cheapest price (after all the fees are added in) If you are selling then sell where you think you can get the greatest exposure and highest prices. It is pointless to argue about personal preferences... Oh, I should clarify those "Realized prices"...yes they do include the buyer's premium but that goes to Heritage not the seller...so the $500 ebay sale is minus 12% to the seller ($488) where the $400 Heritage sale is minus 17.5% to the seller ($383) Hmmm...where would I sell coins....

I think most people who use ebay should 1st know what they are buying and what it costs elsewhere. I've told a lot of people who are new to ebay - they need to know what the price is elsewhere before they jump in and BIN or put in a bid. That isn't just on coins, it applies to everything sold on the site. If you don't research 1st you are more than likely going to pay too much. The thing is with popular coins - too many people go to ebay and look at the common prices listed and sold and assume that is the market price. Most large sellers do the research and know the same things - so they list their coins in the same ranges as their competition - which in this case is other ebay sellers. ebay is after all the largest market place around. All that being said - I've bought a lot of coins on ebay and have gone to local coin shows and they aren't that much different. Some items I can get easily on ebay cheaper than the local sells - somethings are much cheaper at the local shows. I have a lot more options on ebay and we have very few local shows that have commemoratives and other odd coins. I can guarantee this set of WP coins won't sell locally graded or in OGP for what they sell it for on ebay, my options locally are that limited and I am sure I am not alone saying that. Finding a market price - depends on the market. Amazon has coin retailers and some are fair others are not. Many large coin sites have some fair prices and some not so realistic, some have great prices and terrible shipping fees. At the end of the day - the old saying is "there's a sucker born every minute" and ebay can be a prosperous place when finding them.

Pretty sure you meant to compare $440 and $330, not $488 and $383. Also, Heritage charges a seller fee too. I probably would not sell through Heritage unless I had a truly unique item. For a run of the mill coin, ebay will get you more money. But that was my point all along. ebay users pay more. Sometimes much more than elsewhere. Which is why even Heritage sells on ebay.

Quote: You know, the price by which you measure whether you overpaid or not. Not me. I measure it by whether I could get a better price elsewhere without expending more effort. If Walmart 5 miles away sells something for $10, but I drive 10 miles to Target, just so I could spend $12 on exactly same thing, I'm pretty sure that would count as overpaying, even though both stores charge retail price. Similarly, if I can buy something at Best Buy for $300, but I chose to buy it on ebay for $500, I'm fairly confident that would be overpayment, even if the mythical MSRP is $600. YMMV!

I ordered 2 sets on the first day at 1:06pm, I just got off the phone with the mint who told me all 6/17 ship days are being pushed back 2 weeks. Which was actually good in a way because I could go and place an order for a pre sale 70 set from Silvertowne which I been eyeing all week but didn't have the extra $300. So I go to silvertowne site to find out they are sold out of all 70 set's. Now my only option is to wait or order from Goldmart who I never ordered from, and heard their service is terrible....I really wanted the eagle label which goldmart does not have but I could live with the blue pcgs F.S. west point blue label which they do have for $275 + $12 shipping. What to do?

Modern Coin Mart had some more labels when I checked but I havent checked their prices in a while and they were out of PCGS ones last time I looked but had some NGC ones.
You could also try setting an alert for the Silvertowne site on the off chance that they get more of them.
