I picked up some notes recently along with some
other coins etc. and seeing as the notes are 1954 through
1986 they cannot be exchanged here in the U.S. for U.S. currency. The bank explained why etc. so now I know.:)
Do these dated notes still hold their face value in Canada ?
The notes are 1,2,5,10 and 20 dollar denoms. Avg. circ. condition up to maybe a few VF/EF grades. I do not collect
these and was wondering what would be the best thing to do with them. Nothing I believe of any value so to speak other than their face value. I live in No. Mass. so not worth the trip up north for $72.00 face :) if indeed they are still worth that in Canada. Any suggestions/input would be appreciated. Thanks

To my knowledge, none of these have been demonetized and are all worth at least face. (The exception are the very large denomination "bank legals" of the early 20th century - they went up to $50,000, but aren't quite legal tender)

However, all of your notes will be worth more than that. For instance, my catalog says that a VF $20 note from 1954 (modified portrait: I recommend some research here as portrait varieties exist) is worth at least $22, and with some creative listing I expect you can make at least $100 for the lot.

Thank you for the quick reply.
May sound crazy, but I just wanted to get my money back
on them and I have enough on my plate right now so I guess I will list them on here as one lot. No time really to get into
researching and listing each one.
Someone may appreciate them and also get a great deal at below face value anyway.

They are most certainly worth at least face value. With the '54s especially, they are likely worth something over that, depending upon condition. Put them up for auction as a lot, would be my suggestion if you don't want to put any time into them.

They can still be spent here. Collecting is weak post-1954 so condition, as said earlier, is very important. It's possible to buy stacks of dealer lots in Uncirculated condition so unless they have rare prefixes (the serial letters) they don't have much value after that.

And of course a quick glance at the '54s to see if any are Devil's Face is certainly worth the time.

Thanks all for the help and info.
Did not see any Devil Face
The notes are up at the auction forum.
I'm sure somebody could use them.
