My experience is that the the older holed 1d's 2d's 3d's and 4d's are about as commonly found as the U.S. Half Dimes, and silver 3 centers are.
I think most of the holes were drilled by second rate jewelers, in decades and centuries past, so they could be attached to cheap jewelry pieces, such as charm bracelets.
