I'd wager this left the mint without hair over the ear and breast feathers.

Looks buffed to me. Look at the halo around the each digit of the date and the stars around 4 o'clock

From the color and appearance as well as what looks like a weak strike, I want to say it is a Chinese cast copy.

Looks like a weak strike to me but could be a counterfeit. My advice? Don't buy it. Better to be safe than sorry. I've had coin troubles with ebay before.

Like the fine fellows before me suggested.... leave this one alone, it has many suspicious issues.

Weak Strike? Really? The strike can be so weak that no breast feathers show at all?

Yes, You can find MS graded examples in TPG holders. I'm talking about PCGS, NGC and ANACS not basement slabs. I've seen some weaker strikes than this one.

Weak Strike? Really? New Orleans Mint was known for extremely weak strikes.

Some early 1900's Os do come with extremely weak strikes as this one displays. The coin looks AU details as it was not dipped but harshly cleaned.

It's not a "weak strike." Look at the talons and the largest leaves at the bottom of the wreath. On the obverse, there's plenty of detail in the cotton bolls and at the bottom of the hair. These are all areas where a strike this seemingly-weak will show. This thing barely makes EF.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I would *think* that a weak strike would show more on the low points of a coin rather than the high points.

bobby131313. think about the die. the high devices are actually sunk into the die so that they are raised, everything is mirrored. the part of a planchet to be struck first is actually the the surface. a soft strike would then show on the high points as it takes more pressure to force the metal into the die. thats why the lower devices look sharp and clean and the higher devices are weaker.

Yeah, you're right, I realized it about 2 minutes after I posted.
