Does anyone here collect something like the piece below? This is by Dora de Pedery-Hunt, the designer of the queen's portrait for Canada's coinage from 1990-2002. I've always loved her work. I love the detail and the weighty feel of the bronze in your hand. I'm at the gallery, so I'll add specifics (dimension, weight) later, but it would be cool to know if anyone else is into these.
Love nearly all art medals, and this is particularly good. D. P-H is of course also well known for the Hudson's Bay Company medals with its lively ship in full sail.
Yeah, I have a few different versions of that Hunt medal and a number of her other struck medals and am always on the lookout for more. The one in the original post is titled "Hand with Maple Leaves." It is 82.5mm wide and I'm not sure of the weight because apparently my scale only goes to 250g. These are individually cast via the lost wax method, according to the artist's niece, who is whom I purchased this from. They are truly a joy to hold with their weight.
