I am wondering about these strange lines around the date on this coin. Are they PMD or some sort of error?

Looks to be PMD to me, buddy16cat. Could be a planchet flaw. Hm.

on second thought, seeing as you have a partially clipped planchet - ... can you tell if that's an error or PMD? Gonna be hard to tell with that wear!

Good question. I'm not helping much. I'll pipe down and watch for others... : )

It appears to be the best date in a roll of Barber dimes I picked up for $93. That crack around the 9 looks like some sort of planchet error, I just don't know much about them to tell. Of course PMD will detract from the value of a coin where planchet errors don't even if they don't command a premium.

The lines are scratches ( PMD).

That is what I though, scratches. I don't know errors though and one time I post a IHC with what looks like a bite out of it that turned into a lamination peel.
