In light of the recent auction of a polymer bird back note going for $23000 . Can someone tell me what prefixes these notes are found in - I believe the auction note was gog . Is there any other ways of telling what type of note it is or is it quite obvious ?

They were not released 3 years apart. They were left in circulation for three years after they were released in 1995. After the 3 year period they were removed from circulation presumably when they came back to the Bank. Those that did not come back are still out there somewhere.

What amazes me is that it was public knowledge in 2007 that there were these special notes that were put out for circulation in 1995. Even in 1995 there was public knowledge that Domtar was a player in the new substrate and that the Bank of Canada was looking at their product.

One day I will hopefully understand why it took until 2013 for the collecting community to become widely aware about the existence of such notes even though it was public knowledge in 2007. One day we will also be able to figure out as to how many of these notes came back to the Bank and were destroyed and therefore how many may still be out there.

You can find the original article from the Bank of Canada describing this note by going to this link:
