I started collecting when I was 10 years old. Traded a shinny dime for a 1915 s Buffalo. Was my hobby till I got married. 10 years later, I started putting together a type set. I had met real nice gentleman that owned a local coin shop. He took me around to different shows and shops and help me build my type set. Was a wonderful time until he was killed in a holdup at his shop. I sold the type set then and stopped collecting and have not done so for over 20 years. My question, I have never sold part of my collection other than the type set. This was always a hobby. The time has come to liquidate my Lincoln Cent collection. I have a complete set 1909 to 1940 (less the 1922 )in good to avg condition. I also have a 1935 to 1986 MS Lincoln Cent collection. Three questions. 1) should I have the 1909 s vdb graded by PCGS. 2) any ideas on value of the 2 collections. 3) Where would anyone suggest to sell them. I appreciate any input this forum might like to offer. I would leave them to family members but no one in my family would appreciate them like I do and times are different.

If selling is your goal the 1909 s vdb should be authenticated by a grading service. PCGS graded coins will usually fetch better prices but NGC and ANACS graded coins will also sell at a better price than a raw coin. For an average circulated example the pedigree that comes with the 1909 s vdb will make the ANACS grading more attractive with it's ease of submission and lesser cost that PCGS or NGC. After grading I would say ebay would be your choice of venues for selling.

Get the 09SVDB and 14D TPG graded. Break the set up and sell indiviually, as you will get more money in total. Takes a bit longer to sell and more work though.

As IGE posted, you will want to have the 14-d and 09-s vdb graded for authentication. After that I would suggest selling the keys and semi keys individually at the very least and if you plan on selling these on ebay, good quality photos will net you the best results. Good luck and

to CCF.

Thank you for the advice. I wasn't sure about the grading, the key dates are only vg to vf. I think I will take your advice and submit them for grading.
