I spoke to my favorite dealer about the 3-Leg Buffalo I bought (link)

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...41&rd=1&rd=1

And he confirmed what a few opined on this forum. Lamination on a Buffalo IS considered negative, even though technically it's not considered a "problem" coin from the graders.

Based on what "problem free" 3-Leg AU-53 buffalos are auctioning for, I don't think I got completely raked over the coals. But I do want a 3-Leg with no issues whatsoever. It's a shame because I love the coin, and I even love the nature of (this particular) Lamination. But I have a mental block about anything negative about my coins, especially such a major purchase.

My dealer said he will look at it and make an offer, but he insisted I don't tell him what I paid for it. I think this is his way of making a fair and ethical offer. If I can't get my cost back I want to return it.

So to my questions...

1: Is it considered bad etiquette to return a coin when it was as described, and they provided good service? I don't blame the seller.

2: They state a 7 day return policy. I'm assuming that means I have 7 days from the time I receive it, to the time I notify them and ship it? Shipping time standard is about 5 days.

3: When they receive the coin back, what's an acceptable amount of time the money is returned? I paid by credit card, so I would imagine they just credit the funds back to my card.

Thanks for any insight!

Technically, it's not really fair to the seller to return it if it was accurately described, but I know that if any of my regular customers wanted to return something for no reason at all, I'd accept it. You said that this is your favorite seller. I take that to mean that you have done a fair amount of business with him in the past. If so, I don't think he'd have a problem with your return.

I would suggest contacting him first and explaining the situation. Honesty is always the best policy. See what can be worked out from there. I don't think it would be fair to request a refund on the shipping in a situation such as this one. If the seller feels that this is unfair and doesn't really want to accept the return, I'd keep the coin if I were you. Finding a seller that you really like is worth keeping a coin to promote a good business relationship.

If you paid by credit card, the funds should just be credited back to your card.
