Here is Verina's man, Leo I. Most of his coins are the tiny bronze AE4's that are the more common among late Roman nummi, but this one is of the rarer AE2 bronze type for him. This particular type was minted in Constantinople to be used by the people in far-off Cherson, a Roman town situated in the Crimean peninsula (which means the inhabitants were next-door neighbors to the Huns ). This coin completes my bronze type "set" for Leo I (I'll admit I wasn't actively trying to complete it, but imagine my surprise when I found out there were no other Leo I bronze types to collect!). I have as well the AE4-sized lion, Verina standing, Leo dragging captive, and monogram reverses (although there are several variations of the monogram and lion - I have only one of each). Leo I, Eastern Roman Emperor, (reigned 457-474 AD), AE2 Obv: DN LEO PE-RPET AVG, diademed, draped, bust right Rev: SALVS R-PVBLCA, Emperor standing right with foot on bound captive falling forward, holding globe in right hand and labarum in left hand, CON in ex, Constantinople mint (for use in Cherson) RIC X 657

Nice! Can we see a picture of it with a Leo monogram coin? Gotta love the perspective.

See I really like this one. Outside of the fact its a VLRB, it has all the details I would look for on a late coin. Bust, mint mark and reverse design. A gorgeous "ugly" coin, I love it.
Do you think you having "all" of the types, would pump up the value of each other if they were offered in a "lot", as to say buying/selling a set?
Its really a small/huge accomplishment!
Well played!

Thanks guys! Ben, I'll see if I can get you that photo soon. I can tell you right now though is that it's the size of a US nickel. Quote: Do you think you having "all" of the types, would pump up the value of each other if they were offered in a "lot", as to say buying/selling a set? I'm sure there would be a bit of a markup, but something like it would most likely mainly appeal just to specialized collectors (who would be most willing to pay such a premium).
