Hi All,
I collect mostly European crowns and have accumulated quite few minors and other coins through various methods such as local estate sales. Also I have few coins that I have replaced with better grade. Now I am thinking selling them on ebay to offset the cost of some of my new buys. I would appreciate if you can share your thoughts on the following,

1) would you sell collections of coins of them individually ? ex. I
ve got few Austria/Hungary 20 Kruzers and 1 Florins that I debate selling together or individually. What are the pros and cons of each method ?

2)am I required to collect local state tax from instate sells (NC) ?

3) What tax implications are there with ebay selling

4) I am thinking of just shipping to US/Canada/AU/NZ and western Europe. How can you stop bidders from other countries ?

Thanks a lot.

I have always felt that you will get more $$ if you list items individually. This would allow those that are looking for specific pieces to bid on them without being run off at the thought of having to purchase them all. It also gives you more opportunities for item to have bidding wars, which would be great for you.

As far as taxes are concerned, unless you are filing taxes for your sales, you cannot collect taxes on them. If you are like me and have a business license, and file taxes quarterly, you must collect taxes. Most sellers on ebay do not sell enough to need to file taxes.

Up to this point, ebay has left it up to the individual sellers to deal with the tax issue. Though it appears the government is closing in wanting their piece of the pie as well.

You can ship where ever you want. On the listings, just indicate which countries you will ship to and at what rate.

I was reading about the issue of collecting taxes for other states for those that have a business in a given state. I don't expect something like that to pass but it only applies if you are bringing in a million a year. If you are doing well like that, you can afford someone to deal with your taxes for you.

The people above pretty much nailed it. I would also sell the coins individually to get bidding wars and more money. Good luck.

By the way, if you sell single coins and you get several that won't sell, put them in a lot then.
