Hello,

I have been collecting the US State Quarters for my grandchildren. So far I have found only quarters with mint marks of "D" and "P". Today, however, I received an Oregon quarter with an "S". Now where do I put that one in my books? Are there other coins with an "S" in the States series?
Thanks for any information you can provide.

That would be a proof coin that someone broke out and spent. The circulated coins are made at the Philadelphia (P) and Denver (D) mints. Proof coins are made in San Francisco (S) mint. According to the 2008 Red Book they minted 3,262,960 of them. I'd say that you should put that one in a holder and definitely keep it. Nice find.

Thank you, docsfishn. I appreciate the information. That explains why there is no place for an "S" in the collecting books. I will hang on to it.
