I don't think CNG provides a dialing device with it. They would have no way of getting home!

TESgamma (Thessalonica) Auction description from http://www.cngcoins.com/Coin.aspx?CoinID=237502Quote: 307, Lot: 342. Estimate $100. Sold for $140. This amount does not include the buyer's fee.
Jovian. AD 363-364. Æ Maiorina (26mm, 3.84 g, 6h). Thessalonica mint, 3rd officina. DN IOVIANV S P F P P AVG, [laurel and rosette-diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust right] / VICTORIA ROMANORVM, [emperor standing facing, head right, holding labarum and Victory on a globe;] TESgamma. RIC VIII 234; LRBC 1698. VF, green patina, central portion of cut out in antiquity. Unusual. And I was wrong about the price. $140 plus buyer's fees, so $161 + shipping.

It would be funny to find this same coin and cut out the center, 'age' the cut a bit, and sell it as the missing center.

Amazing. So these are worth far more with a hole in them than not.

Instead of making 'fakes' (and engaging in fraud) it should be a whole lot easier to 1) make a punch and die 2) anneal an old bronze coin 3) punch out the center 4) 'age' and re-patinate the coin 5) sell it to some 'chump' for big money
You wouldn't be engaged in forgery as the coin would be without question ancient You are merely 'improving' it a little ..... think of it more as a aggressive 'overcleaning' Or perhaps "tooled"

I am guessing they changed the description since I first posted it since it doesn't have the barely noticeable anymore.
It should only be 'slight tooling with some smoothing on the inner ring'

Somewhat related, I came across this interesting holed/cut coin from a recent Australian auction. Hammered at $40,000! Picture from a screen cap of the online auction catalog, viewable at http://www.downies.com/aca/pages/ca...asp#session4So maybe if you hole some coins today, your greatgreatgreatgreatgreatgreatgrandchildren may have something of value.

Well that one looks like the hole is an actual counter mark as well.
I should go start poking holes in all my toonies again and start selling them. Used to do it just for fun didn't know I could make a profit!
