From their current eAuction see this coin and description http://www.cngcoins.com/Coin.aspx?CoinID=237502"barely noticeable hole in center obscuring a few insignificant details!" I definitely agree with their description truly an insignificant hole

I'd love to know the story behind that coin!

Perhaps they will sell the punched-out section of the coin separately and describe it as having a few insignificant bits shaved off the edges?

at first I thought it was a picture of one of those celtic ring "proto-coin" tings....that's is very funny.

Minimum bid $60 ? They are grading this in VF condition ? They should save a few 'puffs' for the rest of us ......

CNG starts all of their 'low' auctions at 60 bucks. A lot of them are nice to look at though.
They also seem to get more and more smoothed and tooled AEs so I try to stay away from those. At least they note that it has been tooled which is better than some

Holed ancients are pretty common, but this one is way out there.

I am assuming it will get some bids CNG is a big name in ancient auction houses. The bidding only opened yesterday.
The last auction they had a bunch of Geta damnatio pieces that sold way out of my price range.

Wierd.
Inner diameter would be too small to have been used as a finger ring, unless for a child.
Maybe because Jovian didn't last long, a forger thought to sut out the bust/reverse type to reuse in making a fake mould?
Or one of Julian II's staunch supporters did this to the coin as a mark of contempt, maybe a curse on Jovian?
If so, it worked. He died before reaching Constantinople, after ruling for just over 7 months.
