Hello, all. :)

I don't own this coin, and I don't know if it's rare or valuable, but I'd love to know what it is because I'd like to obtain one if it's inexpensive. Those look like some kind of undersea ferns and octopus arms to me. The octopus is one of my favorite creatures, but I've seen them more on commemorative coins rather than on currency. I prefer currency.

Sorry for the poor quality of the photo. I came across it when reviewing some veterinary parasitology photos for work. In the photo, someone included this coin alongside the specimen being discussed, for size comparison. They called it "ten cents" but I don't know in what country it's a ten-cent coin. Anyone know? :)

I have cropped the photo for you, to exclude the parasite specimen because it's icky and you may not enjoy seeing it. :P

Thank you, to anyone who can ID this for me!

The coin is a 10 cent coin from Australia. The creature depicted upon it is in fact a Lyrebird, not a marine creature at all.

The Australian 10 cent coin is 23.6mm across, or slightly smaller than an American quarter.

If you've got a hankering for a coin with a cephalopod on it, I would suggest the 50 cent coin issued by Tuvalu.

Although some of the promotional materials for the World Science Fiction Convention in Melbourne a couple of years ago altered an image of this so that it became a Cthulu coin!

Thank you! :) Now that I know what it is, I've looked and found a better image of it and do see clearly the bird, not marine life. Still a pretty coin, but I don't need to own one. Thanks again!

And that sounds very cool. I'd love to see it, the Cthulhu version the Sci-Fi-Con people created for AU promos. Can't find a photo online, though. I happen also to be into Lovecraft, so it's nice you mentioned that bit. :)

And that Tuvalu 50c piece: Yes, it's wonderful and already in my plans.

Again, thanks so much!
