Hi,I'm not keen on greek coins. In this case I only see a bull on the reverse but the obverse is really strange and I can't realize nothing.
Maybe a shield?maybe a face?an animal with tentacles?
an animal with many dragon heads type?
the coin is very thick and heavy.
ideas appreciated!

What's the diameter?

Maybe it's something like this coin from Macedonia, with the obverse off center and perhaps double-struck:

Hey, I think this may be a close match:

It does look like there are wings on the head of your coin's obverse.

Diameter is 17-18 mm,about weight sorry but my balance has low batteries at the moment.
I thought too a double struck but the strange thing is that sort of double ax you can see on the extreme left on the obverse in picture number 1.
perhaps a countermark?
thanks a lot for help.

I don't think that's a countermark-- just remnants of the original letters in exergue.

You can see more of these on wildwinds. Scroll down to the SC 21 examples and also the Sear #6852 example (very last one) http://wildwinds.com/coins/greece/s...kos_I/t.html

Oh, I misread your bit about the countermark. I guess it could be... could also just be damage. I think the 'ax' is also an illusion... pretty sure that's a face, just with a couple of dents.

I think TIF is right about the attribution (or at least the subject matter on the coin), I do believe the Axe is an illusion caused by the deformation of the coin due to the counter stamp. Interesting piece...

to me the counterstamp looks like the forward facing bust of Helios, maybe Macedonian bronze coinage, revalued for use on Rhodes? ....

Again very interesting piece...

Thanks again to all!
It seems to mee to see a bent dolphin into the counterstamp(pic n 2)with tail from left and snout to right.
