From the land of the Bluenose.....the pounding of the rain on the window awoke me long before the alarm clock which was set for 0600hrs. Called Navy Davy and we agreed to call off our dig at 0615hrs. Called Navy Davy at 0800hrs and a digging we went after the mandatory stop at the golden arch for a breakfast sandwich and a cup of mud.

The sky was still dark and some fog began to roll in as we headed down the south shore towards Bayswater Beach. Once there we assaulted the barren beach which was not only barren of people but of finds. Life guards showed up about 45 minutes later and the first thing they did was post signs saying the water was off limits due to the bacteria count. Man this was a first as I have never seen this beach closed even in my youth. A reporter from CTV showed up with his camera man and engaged me in a conversation about the beach being closed while the mike was in my face and the camera man a doing whatever it is they do. Explained about the swimmer's itch and the cure. Then showed him me gut with the welts. The camera man focused his wide angle lense!

The reporter then asked how we were making out on our detecting.
"Raking in the goods and having a ball" I retorted!

After my 30 seconds of fame (send you the link if it's aired on the news) Navy Davy and I continued swinging looking for a specific target......his glasses...no luck and he was driving!!!!!!! Darn Kamakaze Horse flies where buzzing around like crazy. Downed one with my lesche tool on a lucky swing. Loved the splat sound.

Stopped at the truck cantina and mortgaged a couple of cans of pop. Almost had to take a bank loan out to afford them me son.

Soaked, tired and cranky we were not done yet and headed to the "button hole" where the water was even lower as they where again working on the dam.

Rather then a song and dance here are the photos of ND's finds which included 7 buttons and a coin yet to be identified.

The large copper is a bite of a mystery as it has one side with a Yank ship while the other a seated Britannia with the date 1812.....not listed in Haxby!

Keeping the 2 pennies in it!

Navy Davy will add to the post once he has things straightened up and his coin identified. Another pleasant and good outing with my bud!
Rest in Peace

It's a North America Copper Ship Token. Private token after Confederation. They struck them in Ireland (Dublin) for use in the new USA close to the Canadian border.
