I have noticed a steady trend in the price of silver falling. Would you say that now is the time to stock up, or will it continue to fall further?

I am thinking about starting a Walking Liberty half dollar set, and thought that this would be a good way to invest in silver and start a decent collection.

What do you guys think/recommend before I go off and do something pretty dumb lol..

Even though silver's falling it shouldn't have a huge impact on collectible coins. It might on coins that are in rough condition and people may aquire for silver content, but if you're going to look at nicer or key date coins then I wouldn't expect any type of price break.
Rest in Peace

If I knew when to buy & when to sell, I could have a lot of the coins I see on this forum.
Actually though you must make the ultimate decision. You'll probably get conflicting opinions about buying.
For a really high grade Walker coin the price of silver shouldn't have a lot to do with pricing.

There is a huge difference in buying nice coins and investing in metals....I don't think a little silver at the 19-20$ range is so bad....but,,, I thought that at $30 also........:)

If you bought silver at $30.00 an ounce you should buy at least as much at this level. By doing so you will cost average your silver holdings to approximately $25.00 per ounce. When silver does go up again you won't have to wait until it gets to the higher level before you break even. If it drops some more buy more as it goes down and your cost average keeps going down.

It depends on the condition of the coins you want for the set and if you want to get the entire series or not. You can get most of the 1923 and later coins in average circulated condition for about melt value. Better dates will obviously cost more. Or you can go for the long version of a short set which is 1934-45 or the standard short set 1941-45 in uncirculated condition. You have options.

Assembling any size set of Walkers is not a dumb thing to do as popular as the series is.
