It's definitely Greek, but I would be surprised if it was authentic. I'm sure the experts in this area will be along shortly.

to the community The coin does appear to be of a Greek design but I also suspect that it isn't real.

Hello, thank you for your answers but I think this is some roman coin maybe provincial because of the marking sc(Senatus Consulto) but if it is a copy...then everything is possible.

I can't read the legend. Is it in Greek ? If it is in Greek then why should it have S C in exergue ?
Better photos would help a bit. As it stands now it looks like a 'dud'

Quote: Hello, can anyoune tell me something about this coin,is it original and where it is from.-dexa988 Did you buy this in Serbia or online from abroad? There are a pre-Roman/Roman Balkan coinage. I might have a look through my Varbanov books on this... Like most Roman provincial coins from the east Mediterranean where Greek was the common language, the legends are in Greek. Yet it has " S C" in exergue.

Hello, I have bought it recently on a local market in Turkey at the city of Selcuk.

The variety is not unknown to me In fact it is the only one I presently own But the flans look very different (former is quite thin and flat while later has a thick 'lump' of a flan) I am very dubious about the coin in question. A dog like Hippo with scorpion above ?

It's possible that it is supposed to be a Roman provincial, but the overall appearance of this piece IMO doesn't look right. I don't think it's a real coin.

If you bought it at a market in Turkey, it's most likely to be a "tourist fake", as Turkish law forbids the sale of genuine ancient coins.

Place of purchase, mooshy details, and a raised edge. IMO it is a fake and a bad one at that.
