Today I went to a local pawn shop to see what kinds of coins they had and was a little curious of some of their pricing. I picked up two 90% 64 Kennedy's and two Franklins (52,54) for 8 dollars each. The thing that had me confused was that the other half dollars they had were all 65-70 40% Kennedy's marked for 10 a piece. The coins were all about the same condition give or take so that couldn't have been why they were priced higher so maybe they had their silver content percentages mixed up. All I know is when I get paid again next week ill be going back to see if they have anything else come in or maybe try and haggle them down a bit. They also had a bunch of dimes for 4 a piece which I think is a tad bit too high and a bunch of quarters for 10 a piece which made even less sense to me since I paid less for the two Kennedy's and two franklins I bought. What do y'all think. I know I paid a little more then spot for the coins but I thought it was a fair deal on the ones I purchased.

$4.00 for common circulated average condition silver dimes is most definitely high...if that is what the dimes which you referenced are.
Rest in Peace

Be careful. If you pay asking price without negotiating first, the pawnbroker might go into cardiac arrest!

8$ is good on those 90%, cheapist I know of online or locally is 17.25$ per dollar for kens and bens. Washingtons and rosies go for 16.90$ cheapist I know of.

Did you have to pay sales tax? I buy rolls of 90% online because shipping is cheaper then my states sales tax.

I usually have to spit out at least twelve for silver halves - good pickups! Although the pricing is rather odd, I agree.

I have some 90% silver that I may look to sell..... I have to check to see what are in those rolls first though.

I agree that finding good deal at pawn shop is not common.

I agree...haggle. I'd start with the halves since the price isn't obscene and when you get them a little lower and locked in.. then start asking why the price difference on the other coins. Those do seem out of line since your getting Franklins for $8 - perhaps he has a good stock of those and is low on the others?

Yeah was happy. I might go back and try to haggle him down a little with the other halves and such but fittest wanna haggle this time because I didn't want to explain the others were less silver content. Those were the only halves they had besides the 40%s. maybe if I buy bulk heck give me a good price cut because he had probably over a hundred silver coins mostly dimes and quarters. He had a few peace and Morgan dollars might try and pick those up as well.

You did well on that buy and even better by not buying the others they were over priced.
