No he is not 'green' as I had hoped ....
Rather a gorgeous chocolate brown

Syracuse Dionysus I 405-367BC

After 'winning' the first coin for less than I had expected
I stuck around to watch the rest .....
To my surprise I noticed that the 'Greek' was not a smaller sized AE as I had thought but came in 'Jumbo' size.
I do not really know anything about them but just for larks I bid 50 clams ..........
I was shocked to learn a few moments later that the big fella was mine for $46 !

Happy days are here again
Yes happy days are here again

46 clams is a steal for the Syracuse! I have one slightly better IMO but it cost me almost double. I have some of the SYRA, that would be in the left obverse field that so often is out to lunch. Happy Days my friend and a five fruit salute...

Lovely coins. Do the green bits on Victory need attention?

I dabbed the green spots with some "Blue Ribbon" preservative and they remained unchanged.
Generally 'disease' will be soft and wipe off on the cotton.
I will keep an eye open but I believe they are okay.

The seller told me they were purchased in Nuremburg in 1968. Although he didn't tell me ......
He probably paid 100DM !
As I recall it was about 5DM to 1US way back when
