$3 1874 Gold Coin Opinions Please - Coin Community Forum

gtinut New Member United States 2 Posts	Posted 08/06/2013 6:42 pm I am curious to know what this coin might grade as or be worth. I am thinking about selling it but dont know if I would see a lot more being graded and certified as opposed to not. Looking at the coin it is very smooth and shiny...the pics are ok but not the greatest representation. I cannot see anywhere that is worn. There is a scratch under the wreath that appears in the picture to go further than I can see with my naked eye. The first pic really makes the coin look "rougher" than it is. I will throw out AU-53 and a $1300 or so retail value as an estimate if authenticated and problem free. Others will have more informed opinions though. I don't have time right now to really study to make a call on authenticity, but it's a nice coin if it passes that test. Report this Post to the Staff
