Yeah you have a point there. I am not backing up bit coin by any means, but it has gotten a lot of exposure this last year and new and new things are happening every day. However, I save or invest in none of it.

I should point out though that 95% of the time, these things sell for btc not usd or any other form of currency. Its a little odd to think that someone would pay USD for these.

Thing is, in order to exercise that value, you have to pass on the piece of paper. In other words, the value stays with the object. That is not true in this case!
If someone hands you a $20 note, you have a pretty clear idea of how much buying power you can exercise using it. If someone hands you this object, you have no way of knowing whether it has (para-)currency value at all, & if so, how much. In that way, it is more like a gift card, which may have an arbitrary value attached to it, or none at all.
