Okay, finally took the plunge - I got this dirt cheap! I also wrangled a prussian coin for an extra 50p, really happy ewith that.

The description says that ones side says 'BRITANIA RULES' and the other side 'GREGORY III PON'. No idea about it. Itd show you the pictures, but I might as well have been bidding without one - way too blurry.

My guess is that this piece may be recognising a millennium anniversary.

Probably just the easiest pontifical name to slip in for GEORGIVS III REX. A little Catholic humor at the expense of the Anglicans. Or is it the other way around? Lots of pics of GREGORY III halfpence on the internet, with various legends for Britannia. I might have held out for a BRITISH GIRLS! The evasions are fun; post a pic when you can!
