Nigira-Notes

I placed a manila envelope for the purpose of seeing the transparency of the note.
This note is very shiny and feels almost like a thin plastic sheet.

It's "one of ours" - an Australian-made polymer banknote, so it actually is a thin plastic sheet.

The lower note shows just why plastic banknotes are becoming more popular in equatorial countries. That soiled and dirty note is only two years old!

Since receiving my first "polymer banknote" I would like to start a collection. Any idea where can I find them?

A few are commemorative notes, aimed at collectors (like the Romanian note of 1999 for the total eclipse that happened there that year), but most are ordinary circulation banknotes from the countries listed on the Wiki site - you can get them from banknote dealers, ebay, even your local currency exchange booth.

Another list of polymer notes made by NPA can be found on the Note Printing Australia site.

Romania reached the 2nd generation of polymer banknotes:
first was 2,000; 10,000; 50,000; 100,000; 500,000; 1,000,000 LEI. The reform cut 4 zeros off the back of the figures, so we now have in circulation:
1; 5; 10; 50; 100; 200; 500 LEI.
So:
25,000 old LEI = 2.5 New LEI (RON) ~ 1$

The 2,000 lei 1999 eclipse coin was released for circulation. Only a few of them were sold in a bank brochure as a collecting article. Those had a 001A... series. Many rumours circulated at the time about the fact that A series banknotes were very rare and worth 20$.So everybody stacked 2,000lei A series (A series is not the same thing as 001A series).
