Hi I am trying to get this coin identified for a friend.

Can you tell me when this was made and what is its value. I believe that if you take the gold off the coin, the coin will not be harmed.

Thanks

Looks like a Tetradrachm of Syria. Antiochus ........ Maybe lucky 7 ? Nice coin retails in 4 or 5 hundred and up range. But that is usually from a 'dealer' . Might find one on some other venue and pay less.

The reverse inscription says it is Seleucid King Antiochus Euergetes, better know as Antiochus VII. This is the tetradrachm denomination. Without the gold the value would be between $300-700 dollars depending on where it is sold and to whom.
The coin was minted between 138-129 BC.

Thankyou very much for your help FVRIVS RVFVS, Ancientnoob and echizento. I will tell my friend about the coins value and date. I will also look closer at the gold ring to see if it is attatched to the coin
