I just won this lot. It has some brooches and stuff and around 120 uncleaned coins - mostly mid to low grade, it seems. I cant really tell so well from the photo - we'll see when I receive the lot.

Theres one alright looking sestertius which could be interesting. The rest ill poke through for the fabled Constans/Victory galley coin I've been looking for for so long and then ill move it along. Any forum members who want a crack at em, send me a PM - uncleaned coins are the best form of education for roman coins and I enjoy seeing people post the stuff they've cleaned up themselves.

Dutch, PM me. I can help you along - I wont be cleaning many of these myself sadly.

My first step these days is to seperate out any for preferential treatment and then put the coins into deionized water (couldnt get distilled) to get the loose dirt off. After that, change the water and leave for a week or so. Then its into the oil with the survivors. I do love the subtle fizz they give off when you first drop em' in.

Did these come from a dealer or a detectorist? I clean regularly and enjoy the challenge.

Dealer. I have no idea where the coins came from. Thats what worries me...ill be the third guy to rifle through them. That leaves anyone who gets a lot at 4th.

Yes, that's one of the inconvenient truths about uncleaned coins. In my experience, even the finders are getting pretty savvy about what to pick out. Still, I see some interesting pieces in your lot. Let us know what you find when you receive it!
