1932 S and D not withstanding, what's the threshold for the other keys on the silver Washington quarters?

I will say I have found most everything except the 32 d and s in junk bins except a 40 d. I can't seem to ever come across one

Your can go here for mintage: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Washin...tage_figures
I have agree that most can be found in junk bin in low grade. So 'key'/high value jump only happened in higher MS graded coins.

I'm just looking for a number among the mintage figures that would indicate a key date.

I know this isn't your question, but in high grade (AU+), I consider the keys to be: 34-D, 35-D, 36-D & S, 37-S, 38-S. (And, of course, the 23-D & -S).

I have told this one before, but perhaps worth repeating in this thread.
I live in Sydney, (down under).
I was in a coin shop, and found a nice looking SLQ in a junk bin. Looked about EF35 or thereabouts.
In the grading system used for World coins, that equates to around good VF
I bought it for a dollar.

I WAS NOT a specialist in U.S. coins, and neither was the dealer. MY principal interest at the time was ancient coins, and still is.
I checked it out about a month later: Guess what?
A '23s!
It was later auctioned for $330. That was about 20 years ago.

I look back on this story with some regret, because I have since developed quite an interest in U.S. coins and now have over 200 of them.

Yes, a 1923-D or 1923-S Washington quarter would be interesting to have.

Yeah, I know you meant 1932 for the date.

Not bad, a 1923-S Standing Liberty quarter for an Oz dollar.
