Hi everyone:

I just wanted to take a moment and introduce myself. My name is Jason and I just decided to turn my general interest in coins into a full fledged collection/hobby.

My focus right now is going to be on silver canadian coins and speciality coins put out by the mint with outstanding artwork. Just purchased my first one the other night "maple of piece" ... Can't wait for it to arrive!

Looking forward to learning more and seeing tr collection grow!

Jason

I agree with nickelsguy. Be careful purchasing new products from the Mint. Just like a new car, they tend to lose a significant amount of value upon purchase. Unless there's something you really want, and don't mind the possibility of overpaying, stick with products that are a couple years old.

And always, shop around. ebay can often give you a good idea of what you should be paying for something.

Welcome!!

and also about the new products they put out.. Yes the artwork can be appealing but once they sell it the value drops.... Follow ebay to see whats what or even just ask the folks here what they think about a new coin from the mint before you spend.. Cant hurt right ?

Welcome Jason. One word of advice from an older collector, split your investment dollars into three chunks. One part for modern material, one for older pieces to fill in for your collection, and the third part to get the special piece for your collection. Try to not spend your dollars all in one place. Above all ask lots of questions, there are a great number of very experienced collectors here.

Thanks for the kind words all!! Right now I'm not running out to get the rarest or best ... Taking silver as I find and spending on the pieces that I love!

Looking forward to "growing". And sharing with you all! :)

You can find some of the one's you may be looking for at the Post Office and save on shipping. Also not all post office's carry the same thing.

Have fun
