Hello,

Bought this one earlier this week at a shop I've gotten some excellent deals at. The dealer there had no idea what this was exactly, but marked it as Byzantine. I'm guessing its either late Empire or early Byzantine. Anyone know what it is exactly?

This is a Class B Byzantine Anonymous folles Attributed to Romanus III circa 1028-1034. The reverse image is upside down and the coin appears to have been restruck over an earlier one which is fairly common. Sear # 1823

Yep. The text on the front reads "IC-XC" (Jesus Christ) across the fields, and EMMA-NOVHL (God is with us) around. The text on the reverse reads "IS XS BASILE BASILE (Jesus Christ king of kings).
