Need a little help. Don't know what this error is called so I;m unable to label it correctly. here's a strip of metal from The C to the rim. Hope the picture is good enough.

This is called a die break. As the die deteriorates, after repeated coin punches, it cracks, and the metal from the coin blank fills in the break. Interesting piece, thanks for sharing.

Very unusual----Too uniform, too straight?
Does not crack from weaker points of the die?
The crack is in two different areas?
Need sharper images.
Very nice find--I would still classify it as unknown cause.

I would make sure it is not lacquer or the like. May just pop off as a tag along.

I looked at it through a 20X magnifier and it is definitely a strip of metal. I wish I could get a better picture to you but the point and shoot doesn't give any better. That shot was with my 10X loupe taped to the lens. I took a number of shots from various angles and light. Maybe I can find one that's a bit better and re-post it. Thanks for all the suggestions though. I appreciate the responses!

Does your point and shoot have a macro or super macro setting? If not you could zoom it in, and crop it in a photo editor. It would be great to see it close up if possible.

bobberbear I hope you dont mind, here's a closer up. I would not normaly do this but I really wanted to see it. Now that I can see its metal I'd say its a keeper but I cant say for sure what type of error it is.
