I'm building a set of Victorian quarters in F+ grade, and have found the 1889 to be incredibly tough find above G-VG (even more than the 1875). In circumstances like these, I tend to throw trends prices out the window, and bid what I think is needed to buy the coin (since it sold at my max bid price, I suspect someone else had the same idea). I noticed the watermark, but have no intention of upgrading and re-selling the coin. Glenzy hit the nail on the head in the original post; high-grade, low mintage key dates retain their value very well, and in my case, I'll pay premiums to get them. Report this Post to the Staff
