Lenticular set was 20,000. I can not give you a direct link but it came from a reliable source & that is what I went by. Sorry I can't provide confirmation but maybe someone else can.

wlouison: Unless you have access to the year end profit and loss statements for the RCM, you don't know how much this kind of fantasy coin cost the taxpayer. And I'm sure you don't. If I saw a an old superman comic at any kind of show or auction, I would be the first one there admiring it but these kind of HSN type marketing gimmicks make me ill. I'm sure big bonus cheques will be handed out at Christmas for a job well done, regardless of how money it cost the taxpayer. It's clear the Mint is incapable of original ideas and now have to turn to Warner Brothers for material to stick on a coin. BTW, I'm not the only Canadian who feels this way. |

I'm sure this accounting was done by the same bunch that claimed the missing 17,500 troy ounces of gold was an accounting error?
Regardless, keep buying those Superman coins, I enjoy receiving those monthly, cream colored rebate government cheques, I can never figure what for.

41 millions in profit on 2.5 billion sales, a 1 oz. silver coin average selling price 100.00 what is the RCM markup ? Even at 10 percent markup profit would be 250 million, must have tremendous overheads. |

Numismatics are only a small portion of the RCM's business. Revenue from numismatics was only $145M in 2012. Contribution to profit by business line is not reported but I would expect that numismatics were responsible for a disproportional amount of the $41M pre-tax profit. Edited by CC-Ottawa

i agree with Canadian coins re rush 2112..he should return the cream or at least save the taxpayers money by having an electronic deposit....sounds like a repressed comic book collector has a mission to make us poor NCLT collectors feel even more unworthy than we secretly feel about our indulgent hobby....in our hidden coin room we parade about in superman costumes with our numismatic friends...all taxpayers BTW...and complain about the lack of profitability in investing in the RCM products....except for Superman that is....The best deal recently was the 7 coin set for 2100plus best offer ebay listing...my condolences to the seller and I sincerely hope that allspice was the lucky buyer...really rush2112.... if youre going about poking red ant nests in the middle of winter it shouldnt surprise you if a few come out and bite you...as the prisoner said when confronted by the pygmy judge..'this small thing was sent to try us'.... |

A rumour reported by Todd Sandham in the Trends section of the most recent CCN is that a large percentage of the gold Supermans were shipped to Japan. Anyone else know anything about this?

@allspice..the same ebay seller dropped another 7 coin Superman set for around 2300..a BIN best offer listing ..he sold it right away of course..he still makes about 800.00 above costs and fees costs of the 7 coin Superman set are around 1250..costs of the 6 coins alone are 500....a lot of sellers are willing to settle for 600.00 for the 6 .....even at 700 you arent making much.......you have to sell a 7 coin set for 3K to make a decent return and pay your ebay fees and shipping ......lots of good deals on ebay these days........ from the Canada Commemorative section of ebay coins I've got some stats for you all..... .Approx total number of ebay listings on Superman coins and stuff related to the release .... last week from Nov 25 to Dec 1st was 75 listings sold and about 225 new listings total with an average of around 365 listings to choose from in that time period per day...im keeping stats and next week I will give another similar report..i would expect a higher volume through the busy xmas shopping season......  |

The trend is sloping down indeed. It looks like RCM products and silver in general are having a fire sale at the end of the year. To many coins produced this year. But I'm still happy with the superman coins I have. with that clear case I don't have to take them out of the box to enjoy them.  Edited by chubbycheeks

definitely some super deals on 7 coin Superman set....such as complete set sold for 1950 on a 7 day ebay auction.......the seller still makes a tidy profit of 500 bucks after fees and another primary gold bites the dust...its only a matter of time and mathematics before those Superman gold coins sell for scarcity value.....of course time is the key factor and the demand is obviously there but if you can get a set for under 2K because the seller needs quick cash.... it works for both parties ....so..up up up and away.... |
