hi all, this is my first post. not sure if y'all are into stuff like this but just added a couple of new bars to my collection. only ever bought very small bars in the past so these were a special treat and I picked them up both in the same month. kind of a victory lap after some rough health problems that are now in the past! these are 5 baht and 10 baht size by the way, one baht is 15.244 grams when it is in bar form. on bars these size there is no labor charge, unlike the 1, 2, and 3 baht bars. have a blessed day, and I wish you all much happy stacking.

1---Welcome to CCF! 2---Congrats on beating the health problem and on the great-looking new bars. 3---If I've got my numbers right, those bars are close to 2.5 and 5 ozt sizes -- WOW! If I ever win one of those big lotteries, I'll get a couple like that, too...

thank you for the warm welcome Rick and Freddy! I'm glad I licked the health issue and it didn't lick me, that is for sure. and this was the best way to celebrate I think! now before you go thinking this was huge money, keep in mind that in Thailand we pay a very, very small premium over spot. I am not sure what y'all pay there but I think for a one ounce bar you might pay $50 or more over spot? is that in the ballpark? but for example the 10 baht bar (which is indeed close to 5 ounces) was priced at less than $30 over spot for the whole thing. labor is cheap here, and most people buy jewelry.
they love to sell jewelry because 1 baht of jewelry only weighs 15.16 grams, but the price is the same as one baht in a bar (15.244 grams). plus on top of the gold cost the customer always pays for labor when jewelry is sold. I think overall women like jewelry and men like bars here. wait- that might be the same in America!

i just found a picture that shows what most every Thai gold shop looks like and thought you guys might like it. usually when the price drops like it has recently you will have a pretty full shop and you have to fight to get your turn to buy! it is part of the culture here to love gold I think. this is a good pic too. note that while gold is sold by the baht here, the baht is also our unit of currency. on the glass are bundles of 1,000 baht notes and each bundle is 100,000 baht, or about $3,000US. It looks like maybe 5 bundles and change, so about $15,000. maybe a 20 baht bar or (gasp!) a 20 baht chain?

you are always close to three things when you are at a Thai gold shop. they have machines to count rapidly through stacks of currency, they have big calculators with large digits that even old guys like me can see, and they have good quality gram scales.

Welcome to the board, glad you beat the health issue. and great gold bars....
Do we like those here? Does a kid like cake, lol....
VERY interesting look into another culture and gold market thanks for great pictures....
I always find it very interesting to see how others view pmz in other parts of the world, via is it unkown or little sold or VAST and many lovers just waiting for the right price drop....
That is crazy how many line up to buy it. Reminds me of midnite madness over here in the states or Black Friday lol. The day after Thanksgiving which is huge sale being the first big shopping day going into the Christmas holiday season....
Last place ya wanna be when the doors open and fall down, trample city eh....
I personally prefer to just to buy online and avoid the crowds if possible, even though all the people in my area are apparantly NOT smart enough to buy pmz as I have never seen but a handful of other buyers in any of my local spots at any one given time, one of which I worked at until it closed down from lack of business.....

thanks everyone, glad you like the pics! I am thinking about a 999 cast bar next as these are also sold in Thailand but only at very few shops. I need some time to save up though! something about cast bars is very appealing to me.

I like these bars, it reminded me of similar bars my parents once owned in Hong Kong.

Congrats on fighting your health problem! Best of luck to you with that..
Those pictures are really cool, very busy shop there!! Do you guys have any bullion / coin shops over there or is all gold and silver bought through jewelers?
Its awesome to see how common interests are shared throughout all cultures.
