I'm fairly new at collecting coins and trying to figure out what coins have been cleaned or not. I have read that 20 to 30 percent of coins have been cleaned on ebay and probably the same elsewhere. Does this 1909 s Indian cent look cleaned, it does to me. Any ideas will help. Thanks http://www.ebay.com/itm/12117095072....m1438.l2649

This a good question about cleaned coins. I'm "coin shy" right now because I thought I had an idea of spotting cleaned coins. Wrong! Learned a lesson at the Chicago show. Thanks VT and No Hope buddy, pals
The 1909 s is a high buck coin I would wait to see what others think.

Not sure but due to age, I feel there should be a bit more dirt inside letters and numbers. Otherwise very possibly cleaned. Of course there is the possibility a coin never made it into a place where there was dirt of any kind. Just unlikely. Oddly enough the reverse does have dirt inside letters and noumbers and the shield at the top. Yet the obverse shows practically none. This could be from the habit of people a long time ago of spitting on their fingers and thumbs and rubbing a coin to make it look pretty.
Regardless of cleaned or not, such rare coins are still worth keeping.
