While looking through some Morgans for $25/piece I noticed a Trade dollar mixed in there. I didn't say anything as I'm no pro on Trade dollars, but knew it was at least worth as much as the Morgan so I got it with another Morgan. When I got home I looked up the value and believe I got a good deal. It weighs in at 26.78g. That being said I also know they were highly counterfeited. So I have three questions regarding the coin posted below. 1) Does it look legit? 2) What grade would you give it? 3) Do you think it's worth more than $25? Thanks for your input!       |

It's not a very counterfeited date, no mold bubbling. It looks in order so I say it's real and worth way more than $25, I'm assuming that's what you paid, great find!

I think it's just a nice worn Trade dollar - uncirculated examples are more suspicious. Good job! |

obverse looks like F-12
reverse is VG-8.
Correct weight should be 27.22 so 26.78 would appear to me to be in the margin.
If authentic, value would be $140 range.

Value would be netted down sharply for the scratches on the obverse, probably to $100 or so. Still an insta-buy at 25.

I guess I may be the only dissenter, I am not convinced it is OK. The wear pattern bothers me so while over all it looks OK, I would be skeptical since they are so counterfeited. Let's hope I am wrong.  |
