No, I havent bought one. But I was wondering how much they cost. I've been offered one for £140, but I dont think its worth it.

Any ideas of value?

That sounds a good price.

There is a modern and archaic type... the modern ones are cheaper the archaic one the owl is with olive branch in incuse square.

Look at V-coins for a rough idea of values.

This is my one I will have to dig out the price I paid but from memory it was £200-300... Its a popular coin type and is heavy and extremely old.

I did a bit of reading/research before buying one. The price varies a lot by type, with the oldest, "archaic" style being the most expensive.
Detail/centering Athena affect prices, as do the presence of any test cuts. And naturally grade/surfaces figure a lot too.
I wanted one without test cuts, and at the time I found this coin to be a good compromise for USD $500. Most I liked were much higher.

Mine is 17.12 grams--full weight, some are notably less.

VERY nice, DV! How long have you had that tet? The price seems much lower than what I see them selling for these days, for a comparable coin.

Heres the one I've been offered for £140. Its had a test cut filled and its worn down but its got a lot of the design there.

Personally I would wait for a better coin. Mine is free of test cuts and has far more detail but was double the price.

Test cuts would bring the price down a bit and I would find a test cut preferable to a filled test cut.

A quick search on V coins shows for less money a better new style owl

£160 would get you an archaic one with some details

£195 still more detail

and if you want more eye appeal it seems just shy of £300 is nearer the mark

Thanks! I bought it in Feb of 2012. I didn't buy the first one that came along--I spent like 4 months looking, which I think paid off.
