In regards to NOT completing the transaction... I was referring to whether or not the seller's auction stated Paypal as payment option, then refused to accept paypal payment. In which case you would not be obligated to complete the transaction. This is where a link to the auction would have been helpful.

quote: I mistakenly bid on, and won, a coin from a seller who does not accept PayPal. He demands a postal money order or cashier's check.
From the original post by Houston_guy. Again, if either of you would have read the entire ebay listing/forum topic, none of these posts would have been needed....

This is the exact reason I hate dealing with ebay! You have to read each auction very carefully because each seller has different ways of doing business. I don't fault the seller one bit for not accepting paypal; though, because the fees do add up fast. Benji may have been a bit harsh but he certainly is right! While I do empathize with Houston guy and wish him all the best, I think he should give it a little more time for the $5 to arrive as the Postal Service can be very slow at times. Also, as you admit that it was your fault Houston guy, why not eat the five dollars and send out another five but this time as a money order and not cash?

tights, "From the original post by Houston_guy." Houston stated "..and I bought a coin from him in December 2006 when he apparently did accept PayPal and gave him a positive feeedback."

ichirenshha- A money order can get lost in the mail as easily as cash. I apologized to the seller for my rash remark about his "antiquated business practices" because I now know about PayPal chargebacks, which apparently result when some people of the younger generation have the notion that it is OK simply not to honor a commitment once made and nonchalantly accept a negative feedback. As the seller and I have done business before, it will eventually work out.
Nonetheless, I now have my setting to show only PayPal vendors so that this kind of problem can be avoided in the future. I have no idea where Benji was coming from, but he certainly added nothing constructive to this discussion -- an inevitable result when the mouth functions before the brain.

I think you did stand up thing with the apology and the situation will probably soon resolve itself.

Pot, kettle, black. I'm disappointed, Bill - I should think either your age-derived wisdom or your career in law (both of which you've repeatedly cited as proof of your superiority in this thread) would have taught you that the best way to deal with a disagreeable respondent (which your antagonist certainly qualifies as) is *not* to stoop to his level. Reasonable discourse seeming impossible here, I'm pulling the plug.
