First off, how do you guys manage? Its horrific selling this stuff! I have to draw lines on what I keep, but stuff is still going which Id want to keep. I might try keeping copies, perhaps in foil.

Secondly, how can I get top buck? I've tried advertising here, but nobody really goes to the promotions forums and theres no other platforms to advertise one. Any tips? Is it worth paying a few pence for the additional stuff on ebay?

What is BST?
Ben are you a member of forumancientcoins?
I don't have anything that would interest an auction house, so I would probably use the bay. I am putting a couple of lots of 50 on in the next couple of weeks. If I had anything worth a few quid, it would probably go on with a reserve. There is one dealer near to me, but I don't think I would get anything near what they might be worth.

All of my more valuable coins would go into a public auction.
Those of medium value can be auctioned in groups.
These two categories would represent 80% of the value of my collection, but only about 10% of the number of coins in my collection.

For the other 90% of my collection, I would probably sell them back to the dealers from whence they came, as a single job lot or on consignment.
Nominally, I would still make a reasonable profit, because just about all of my collection has been acquired by cherry picking, over the last 35 years or so, from public auctions, coin shows and from dealers.

If your acquisition policy is heavily biased by cherry picking, it certainly helps if your numismatic interests are very wide ranging. Experience and a good numismatic library backup helps a great deal in this regard.

I has to be remembered in the case of my collection, that bullion prices on average and inflation over 35 years have had quite a large impact on the values on each coin in the collection.
