Taking a sharp increase in value? I noticed lately my 1825 has been climbing. I'm selling off part of my collection to focus on key dates and key errors. But this one seems to be a keeper, so far.
Anyone know what's behind it, or is it just a popular series of the 50 cent?

When it comes to bust 1/2s it is definitely a sellers market. Many high AU55-58 are selling at 3x-4x sheets. Even nicely toned EF and low AUs are going for $1,000+. I have recently seen major dealers(Laura from Legends) and galleries actively seeking out and offering very strong money for EF to AU. However, this trend is primarily for PCGS graded coins it seems. I assume PCGS has altered their grading criteria for bust 1/2s and many of these appealing XF-AU busts will make their way into MS63 holders.

Busties are enjoying a real resurgence in the marketplace. The number of collectors is rising (count me among them  ), and better circulated examples have, IMO, been undervalued. They are much more difficult to find in unaltered original state than one might think. Get in now if you're going to, because in two years EF-AU Busties are going to be as difficult as similar Barber halves. |

The sky is the limit. Many collectors don't know the history surrounding the series. One of the interesting aspects is they were the FIRST US coin to have edge lettering and are significantly larger 32.5mm than all other half dollars struck. The silver content is 89.2% and copper 10.8% make for a coin which tones up beautifully as time goes by. I love the bust half series. I've always thought they were way undervalued. I remember when VF coins could easily be had for $40 or even less. Only recently has that climbed up around $100. My guide book still lists many EF's at $125. They all seem long overdue for a price spike. That reminds me, I still haven't bought that reeded edge...

Cool stuff! I have an ANACS AU-55 Example that my mother bought last November for my Birthday. She "only" spent $350 for it, so it was my combined Birthday/Christmas present. I unwrapped it raw, sent it to ANACS and it came back AU-55. I checked Heritage and already problem free ANACS examples are going for rediculously high amounts. Ironically she knows nothing about coins. I simply gave her the name of my most trusted dealer, and she came back with a gem! I swear everything that woman touches turns to gold. |

No wonder.... I've been looking for a nice reeded edge for my type set and couldn't find one I can afford.

Given what I've seen of your typeset level, you can figure $200 minimum, and only that if you're very lucky. |

Keep your Bust Halves, especially the higher end coins. I have a couple dealers looking for me and I have been told they are quietly disappearing.

Guess it's time for me to go to my shops around me and pick up what they have since they still go by the Greysheet with some off of that because I am a good customer! |

I think a lot of people are realizing how hard it is to find them in higher grades where they haven't been damaged, whizzed, cleaned, etc.
