No idea about the ring type but a friend in the US sent me some direct fit airtites for my 1oz silver Britannia's and these were the ones that he uses for silver American Eagles. I have been told that the silver American Eagle is just a tad larger until 2013.

According to wikipedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Britannia_(coin)

1997-2012 40.00mm

2013 - 38.61mm

My 2013 bullion one came from the dealer in an airtite. The brillant uncirculated one is on order from Royal Mint....so that could be interesting when that one arrives..since the new ones are a bit smaller....so a 38.61 mm coin in a 40.6 mm holder....now you have me worried.
