Krause says that a Fine East German 1950-A 50-pfenning coin is worth $3.50. It's one of the few East German circulation coins not made from aluminium.

This coin would have appeared as a 'one off' in a junk bin, and therefore fairly easy to spot.
Virtually, a one year type, Krause reports 67.7 million minted, $10 in VF.

OK for a 20 cents buy!
