I know about the medals in this series...in bronze and in silver but THIS is a STAND ALONE medal and if anyone knows the info on these...please share with me.

ANSWER.....

seems the FRANKLIN MINT as well as the WELLINGS MINT (CANADA) produced the same medals at the same time.
here is the newspaper link for the Welling's mint.

http://news.google.com/newspapers?n...3886,2844595

this explains the card color differences in packaging. also a lot of the time when one looks at e-bay postings they don't photograph the back of the coins or cards.

so the Franklin mint medals are BLUE with a WREATH under the coin while the coins printed by the Welling's mint have a green card with no wreath under the coin.
still verifying this fact but it appears to be true.

now whether or not the largest of these medals were ever boxed or sealed in card holders still is a mystery....but since the newspaper add mentions a stand for the 2 1/2 inch medal I'm going to assume possibly it came in a box with a stand...but I still don't know.

if anyone can help with further info...please add.

sometimes its not just about the silver:

It seems just three years after these medals were first produced, the Wellings Mint officially became the Franklin Mint Canada (Ltd). The two ads appear cut from the same cloth.

thanks philau have been a great help.

im getting weights of these medals in at 26 grams......86 ut others are saying .95

im guessing each coin issue was just slightly different in weight....what do you think?

1 1/4 to 1 /2 and well 2 1/2 the largest have one already..5.5 oz

I wish I could e-mail all you smart guys out there...and compare

update:

1970 25th Anniversary of the United Nations Silver Medal 5.5 oz

just wanted you to know I had the one I have just like this tested for purity today.
I got tired of looking for answers which is sometimes common with coins and medals that have a lost history to them....glad to say the machine at AAA precious medals in Portland Oregon clocked in this baby in at 999 purity....so I thought everyone might be happy to know this...
it does have a very heavy outer layer so we had to make a slight file to it on the edge to get to the under-layer of this piece,

and also I have a smaller one that is like 14 grams., I'm sure you have seen those before....that came in as sterling...so we can only speculate on why the larger ones would be purer than the smaller one....?

thanks for everyone input on this topic
