Another one of the better coins from the Goldberg lot. This one came fully attributed, albeit with a mistake in the description. SICILY, Himera. AR litra430-420 BC 11 x 12 mm, 0.68 gm (weight per label; haven't checked it, scale needs new battery) Obv: bearded and helmeted head right Rev: Corinthian helmet right (the CNG label said left... an error or is this a different coin? Guess I'll find out when I weigh it) Ref: SNG Lloyd 1029 ex CNG Sale XXV, lot 71, 3/24/93 ex CNA II, lot 31

Does not look like a Corinthian helmet to me ..... I could be having a brain cramp but I don't see it. Maybe an Amish bonnet

I agree about the helmet-- looks nothing like the Corinthian helmets on other coins, statues, etc. Maybe the type we're accustomed to seeing were a later style, an improved version? Here's a pic of a somewhat similar helmet (I cut out part of the faceplate in the second pic) Here's the wildwinds example of the coin and it looks even more strange. In the listing they call it a "crestless open Corinthian helmet".

There is an example of this coin coming up for auction with a German auction house. The description says "Campanian helmet" (in German: "Kampanischer Helm.") rather than Corinthian. Guess the styles were different. I like that explanation. Here's that coin: https://www.numisbids.com/n.php?p=l...d=552&lot=53 Good golly Miss Molly-- the estimated hammer! Wow, if that is the case, this coin represents ~75% of the cost of my whole lot (and I like mine better than this Peus offering). Feeling very good about the purchase

Nice little coin! Am I seeing some sort of ornamentation or lettering on the OP's helmet?

Thanks everyone! This was one of two coins which was spelled out in the lot's description so I had some idea of what it was about.
As to the helmet decoration-- yes, there is something there but I'm not sure what it is and have not yet found it described.
This mixed lot has been so FUN! Think I'll look for another one :)
