I'm thinking of spending $20 or more on some bulk unsearched world coins (depends on the price per pound with shipping - at $5/pound, I would probably get $100 worth). Are you guys willing to share your best sources? If you have a real zinger of a seller or site that you don't want known to the world at large, PM me and I'll play along

I know there have been many threads on this in the past, but I can't find [m]any good ones from 2013, so... here we go again.

Local prices are $15 per pound , or $7 per pound for really damaged coins that I can cherry-pick in-store.

I was considering this, because the mix looked good:

But I doubt the overall quality of the actual coins will be as good as the pictures, and shipping to Canada will likely be too expensive.

I want this lot for the hacienda token but everything else seems lacklustre. If you like hacienda tokens and you're in America, it has 0 bids with less than 24h left...

I suspect you wouldn't get the lot with the hacienda token.

It's probably a teaser.

I'd be happy to sell you bulk world coins but they're certainly not unsearched and I don't believe the ebay sellers haven't searched them either.

As a kid, I was taken in lots of times by the 'shill' auctioneers that came to sell antiques. They had bags of 'unsearched' coins, too. There was always one bag where I could see a really good coin lurking but that bag somehow never came up for auction. One one occasion, I demanded that they sold the last bag and the auctioneer turned to me and said "that's reserved for the vicar". I knew it wasn't; we hadn't had a vicar for ages but I realised then that I had been wasting my time.

Bulk World coins is probably a good way to start, but when you have 500 or so nice World coins covering the last two centuries, the 'bulk' way to go can be a bit barren.

Sooner or later, you start cherry picking from dealer's junk boxes at shows or at their business location or you search around on the 'Bay.

To open up my horizons I went back in time, and now collect milled, hammered and ancients when I can. Poorer examples of these can occasionally also come from higher priced junk boxes.
It is certainly a way to open up your numismatic vistas and attracts you into higher priced coins, but at least it is a way of getting some unusual and interesting coins.
