Looks like an O - I think it is just a bit out of focus leading to the illusion of an S

Strike sure looks like an O. The coin does not have 84-S characteristics. If it turns out to be an O when you get it, at $50 that is about full retail so you didn't get burned too bad.

Based on the strike and luster, I think it's most likely an O but it would unbelievable find if it turns out to be an S.

I'll probably pass out if it does turn out to be an "S", since I've studied some coins, but if I want to recoup some of my investment, I can always sell off one of the 3 AU V nickels I bought for under 15 dollars (for all 3) including postage.

It all averages out. You make a little here, you lose a little there.

It's an "O" ... it was worth a shot though. It's pretty baggy ... but not harshly cleaned. I think virtually all of these coins have been dipped at one time or another. They just don't stay white for 120 years.

I would have taken the same chance with this had I come across it. It's just part of the fun of this hobby, IMO. I think you have the right attitude, Chance.
Rest in Peace

This one was definitely worth a shot. The original pic sure fooled me! Then too, there's always another deal to be had.
