Good morning/afternoon/evening,

I picked up this coin recently. Is anyone able to let me know what this specific item would be worth?

I have a little knowledge of Australian coins and that particular Florin has an estimated mintage in the 50,000 range.

I don't see any problems with the coin from the pictures, if it's genuine the value should be in the $200-$300 range. (Possibly higher, can't really grade accurately from the pics)

Nice find!

Very few Melbourne Centenary florins are found in poorer grade than VF. Book value for this one $300, but could be found for sale from around $250.

Nevertheless, the coin pictured would be a pleasing to have in any collection.

To be honest, by innuendo, I graded this coin VF.
That may have been a bit harsh, but sharper pictures are really required for a fairer grade.
It also seems to have been cleaned, no mint lustre to be seen.

From the pictures provided, the coin looks to have been cleaned and polished at some point. If true, such mishandling would greatly diminish the value of the coin.

as I understand it, these "coins" were NCLT - they were issued at a premium - you paid 3 shillings for a 2-shilling coin, so very few found their way into circulation.

Secondly, the Chinese have been copying these in recent years.
I'm sure there was a thread on CCF about it -that's the only way that I'd know about it.
The copies were pretty obvious when one had a good look at them.
To evaluate the present item, we'd be better off with a pic taken, out of the 2x2, and the coin filling the pic.

A couple of years ago, genuine Centenary florins were $200 ~ 250 on ebay, but then they nearly doubled (must've been when silver shot up), and most went for about $400. I haven't looked recently.

Yes, looks buffed. Could probably pick one up at auction for $300 or $350, or less.
