Austrian Netherlands, 1774 Kronenthaler, minted in Brussels. Unlike the Austrian thalers, the Kronenthaler minted under Maria Theresia did not picture her on the obverse. Instead the Austrian coat of arms is featured there. The Burgundy cross on the reverse has four crowns instead of three and doesn't feature the golden fleece and flames above as is usual for the emperor of the Holy Roman Empire. After the death of her husband, Maria Theresia was ruling the empire much by herself. Her son Joseph II was emperor only in name.  |

1772 India 18e Mughal emperor : Shah Alam II (1759-1806AD). Born as : Ali Gauhar (1728-1806AD) No date, Ry 13 (AH1173+13=1772AD) Mint: Chandor, in the name of Mughal emperor Shah Alam II This particular 'Chandori'-rupee is attributed to Vaphgoan (18°49'N. 74°00'E). The place is now found on the maps as Wabgaon or Wabgaum, about 20 km north of Poona. The counterstamps on this coins are from merchands who accept this coin for payment.  |

1770 - the first year of issue of the George III halfpenny, although he had been on the throne since 1760. This particular specimen cost me one shilling (5p) from a long-defunct coin shop in Maidstone, Kent circa 1968 and was for a while my oldest coin:  Edited by NumisRob
